Tumi Blocks in Imbuia Wood

Our Tumi blocks in Imbuia Wood are based on the popular Japanese children’s toy Tsumi ishi.  Please note, we source our Imbuia wood as offcuts from the cabinet and furniture manufacturing industries, since it's not a readily available exotic wood. Our Imbuia Tumi blocks are bit more expensive than the other woods, since it's a really pricey and rare wood.Tsumi ishi literally means piled rocks and is derived from the creativity that each child possesses to turn everyday objects (such as rocks) into a toy or a game.  The original Japanese version of Tumi ishi blocks are pebble or rock shapes made out of wood.  Our version is more geometric and we create the wooden blocks the same way we would shape our jewellery and other homeware products, by hand carving the wood into faceted shapes using a traditional Dozuki Japanese hand saw .The game is to stack and balance the blocks as high as possible, which gets trickier with each added block. You can order your Tumi Blocks in Imbuia Wood in sets of 3 or 5 blocks.  The set of 5 includes one large size block, two medium size blocks and two small blocks.  The set of 3 blocks includes one large size block, one medium size block and one small block.Large:  L 7.5cm x W 5.5cm x H 3.5cmMedium: L 6cm x W 5cm x H 3cmSmall: L4.5cm x W 3.5cm x H 2.5cmPlease note that due to the hand made process of these blocks and the use of natural materials such as wood, the blocks will not always look exactly the same in regards to wood grain and colour as shown in the product photos. We hand-finish each block with very fine sand paper to create a smooth silky surface of the blocks, and they are oiled with food-safe and toy-safe wood oil.
